kung fu panda 2 life style

yes - I know. I got my philosophy from a cartoon.

The cartoon is wonderful, and my kids loved it. I walked away with the main theme of "Who do you choose to be?".  Who do I choose to be? someone who eats whatever they like? and is 50 pounds+ overweight and gaining?

About a month ago I got an app (www.myfitnesspal.com) on my iphone to help track calories -- in the end, it is the delta between what we take in and what we burn that determines our weight. I know this -- you know this.

Tracking calories is just easy for me.  I focus on nutrition later.  I've lost 8 pounds and doesn't seem to be too difficult; we'll see. No tricks; no meditation tape to listen to, no program to follow -- just make some common sense choice about how many calories I choose to eat.

I am what I choose to be.... thanks Panda.

Back near square one

I'm easily 230. Close enough to where I started all this weight loss.

I started on December 3rd 2005 - well, at least that's when I started blogging about my weight battles.

Here I am almost 6 years later. Should I just started again? If I loss all the weight I need to -- taking 3 years and gain it back taking 3 years, is that better than staying fat? I think it is. I do more than I every have before.

So this time should be the easier? One thing for sure, I'm not giving up. Join me if you like.

Goal: Weigh 190 by New Year's Day 2012.
  • a little less than 20 weeks at 2 pounds per week.
Small steps to cut calories and in crease activity:
  •  No latte's for next 4 days -- replace with zero calorie energy drink
  • lengthen daily dog walk by 10 min
Here we go...

body fat percentage goal?

He claims if obese then aim for 20% -- so 20% it is for me. Based on pictures, I'm guessing I'm 30 to 35% now.

Total Inches (TI)

one tool to measure from 4 hour body is Total Inches (TI):
* both upper arms (mid-bicep)
left = 13
right = 14.25
waist = 44
hips = 45
left thigh = 23
right thigh = 23.5
TTI = 162.75

www.fourhourbody.com a new book by Timmothy Ferris

okay - I do like this author.  I think I'm going to get started.

According to his book, I need some before stats to benchmark my progress. I'm having some trouble finding a DEXA or DXA scan in Omaha. I let you know what I find.

stay tuned....

getting back in the saddle

I haven't weighed myself since the last post, so I might be wrong, but I feel like I'm doing well. I've joined the McKesson weight loss club, and I find it fun to receive the daily emails with suggestions and tasks.

Might be getting ill though - worried about that; we'll see.

Visiting an old friend - http://www.mckenna.com

I've always fought for weight lose, and I did get down to below 190. Now I'm back to 220.  Still 15 pounds lower than where I lived most of the time.

I'm going back to the basics. I lost the first time by reading Paul McKenna's book, "I can make you thin." and listening to his suggestive CD.  Instead of just re-reading the book, I've joined his online club.

Looking forward to getting control over food again.

207 warning

My best weight has been about 190, and I'm back up to 207.  Back to the basics.

1) forgive myself for gaining the few pounds back - all the mental yelling doesn't help.

2) expect direction not results. focus on what I know works; dance with whom you came with - don't look for a new quick fix.

More to come.
